Amber Portwood Pants On Fire: Fashion Fail
This installment of fashion fail is aimed at everybody?s favorite mom: Amber Portwood. This time, the troubled Teen Mom star was caught with the least fashionable pants of all?the kind that are on fire. According to TMZ, the troubled mom has allegedly caught herself in a pretty big lie. The rental company that she once rented from now says that she lied about how much money she made in 2010, which actually ruled her out as someone who would be allowed to rent there in the first place. Apparently, Portwood lived in subsidized housing despite making over $280,000! That?s enough for her nose to grow and for her designer jeans to become engulfed in flames. If this is true, shame on you Amber. If not, well, shame on you anyway.

'American Idol' Report Card: Joshua Ledet Soars Again, Hollie Cavanagh Climbs
The top six tackled Queen songs and their own picks; here's how they did.

It was clear from the opening medley on Wednesday night that Queen night was going to be a struggle a few of the "American Idol" top six. Ironically, it was the three leading contenders , Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine and Jessica Sanchez who seemed most uncomfortable, which did note bode well for the evening.
With the only real sort of-rocker, Colton Dixon , booted last week, that meant it was do-or-die time for anyone hoping to make it to next month's finale. And despite a shaky start, Ledet may have punched his card to the finale, where he is likely to face slow-and-steady Phillip Phillips, while Sanchez and Laine just kind of coasted.
Despite what Steven and Jennifer said time and again, none of these performances are likely to go into the "Idol" all-time vault, but a decent night all around. So, who deserves a coronation? Who fell down and broke their crown? Read on for our "American Idol" report card!
Joshua Ledet: Once again, Ledet nailed it, taking a song that could have seriously tripped him up and wrestling it to the ground with some old-school soul. The bass-slapping Sam Cooke run through "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was crazy good and the vintage mic was a real nice touch. This dude's got it so in the bag that he sang an obscure India.Arie song, "Ready For Love" that features the lyric "respects the spirit world," and he still killed it (softly). The only way this guy doesn't make it to the finale is if his voicebox has a run-in with Metta World Peace's elbow. A
Jessica Sanchez: "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Wow, really Bebe? The Polly Pocket diva picked the dragon slayer and, well, brought a dagger to a sword fight. The first part sounded like a Beyoncé B-side, with a kind of cool R&B flavor, but once the dinky pyro blasted and she "rocked" it up, well, it was all high school musical. Steven said it best, "rock isn't your forte." Sanch pulled the military veteran daddy's girl card for the Luther Vandross power ballad "Dance With My Father" and predictably blew it out the box. She actually held back, which was a sly, impressively professional move for a kid who might not even have her driver's license yet. If the girl voters can avert their eyes from dreamy Phil Phillips for two seconds, she may make it ... to the top three. B+
Phillip Phillips: Hand it to Philly Phil, he picked a song that allowed him to take a half-step out of his DMB prison, growling through "Fat Bottomed Girls" with, yes, enthusiasm and spirit. He still looks and sounds like the leader of fairly decent bar band, but his charisma finally translated for me. After months of paying homage, Phil answered his phanatics' prayers and played an actual Dave Matthews cover. And, Phil being Phil, he grunted to the converted by picking a deep, deep track. "The Stone" was subtle, bubbling and kind of boring. His good looks might get him close to the finish line, but at some point if you don't listen to anyone, nobody's going to listen to you, either. B+
Skylar Laine: Laine did about what you'd expect, putting some fiddle on the widescreen ballad "The Show Must Go On." She kind of made it her own, but looked and sounded uncharacteristically out-of-place at the beginning, like she was singing carols at an old-age home and never really connected with the lyrics. Randy thought it was one of her best performances, but then again, Randy was wearing a pin that said, "Yo," so... Her take on Jason Aldean's "Tattoos on This Town" was good, I guess. It sounded like a solid mid-tempo country ditty, but didn't show us any new facets of her musical personality. She's either saving some gas for the final stretch or starting to run on fumes. B
Hollie Cavanagh: Of all the Queen tracks, half-Brit Hollie chose "Save Me"? The generic ballad was actually perfect for the generic singer, who once again brought a Dusty Springfield-style white girl soul to a song that didn't quite have enough lift to make her stand out. Lopez felt the emotion, but she was right, Hollie just doesn't seem like she's having fun, and neither were we. Since she's one step from the ledge every week, Cavanagh dipped back into her bag of tricks and covered Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" again. Eh, it was perfectly acceptable, but I'll probably forget about it by the time I finish this sentence. Pack up those piles of doll clothes kid, if it's not this week, it's next. C+
Elise Testone: With her tambourine, Elise looked more like a back-up singer on "I Want It All" than a potential "Idol." Her vocals were solid and the crowd was way into it, but all those weeks in the bottom three appear to have drained some of the confidence and fire in her eyes. It might have been too little, too late. Of all the songs in the universe, Elise picks a Jimi Hendrix tune. Fine, but "Bold as Love"? What young America wants to hear is songs about "shiny metallic purple armor" and "happy turquoise armies." It was gutsy, but weird, and not in the way she probably intended. Might as well start walking to those stools now, honey. C-

A to Z Challenge: ?K? is for ?(The) King and I? (1956)
Because I?m a memoir author and because I love movies, I chose Golden Movies as my theme for the A to Z Challenge. I hope the movies I highlight that are mainly from the 1940s and 1950s (I was born in 1940) might resonate with you whether you are as old as I am or much younger! And as an author, I?ve discovered that studying films has helped me with my writing. It?s all in the ?scene.?
The musical version of The King and I is one of my all-time favorite movies, partly because Deborah Kerr was one of my favorite actresses (next to Susan Hayward).
Bing.com begins its synopsis:? Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein?s 1951 Broad musical hit was based on Margaret Landon?s book Anna and the King of Siam. Since 20th-Century-Fox had made a film version of the Landon book in 1946, that studio had first dibs on the movie adaption of The King and I.
It starred Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner, and Rita Moreno. They were awesome. The settings were scrumptious.
Besides the exotic culture, and the romantic overtones that Hollywood added to the relationship between the King of Siam and the English widow, my most vivid memory is the soundtrack. The movie made the rounds of the major theaters in Salt Lake, and I kept going back and back to see it until I had pretty much memorized all the song lyrics.
I remember the song that Deborah Kerr supposedly sings (she?s dubbed by Marni Nixon):? Whenever I feel afraid, I hold my head erect, and whistle a happy tune so no one will suspect I?m afraid.
I was sixteen going on seventeen at the time, and though I was very shy in high school, I forced myself to be involved in activities I loved, mainly creative writing, and debate and extemporaneous speaking. In the debate class, whenever it was my turn to perform, I was terrified until I got up in front of the class and began speaking.
This film version has been called ?stagey.? But what the hey. Thank you Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner, Rita Moreno (and the unseen Marni Nixon), and all the other stars in it from the Golden Age of Hollywood that was such a wonderful and vivid part of my youth.

El dos veces ganador del Oscar a la Mejor Pel?cula Animada del a?o por "Buscando a Nemo" y "Toy Story 3", Andrew Stanton, es el responsable de llevar a la gran pantalla esta obra fant?stica, con elementos de ciencia-ficci?n, con ingredientes rom?nticos (la relaci?n amorosa de John Carter con la princesa Dejah Toris) y que lleva impl?cito un mensaje de concienciaci?n para todos aquellos que habitamos este planeta, de cuidar y proteger fervientemente los recursos animales, minerales y vegetales para que pueda existir un ma?ana.
Aunque ha trabajado en diversas producciones de todo tipo como las series "Kyle XY " o "Friday Night Lights", quiz?s recordamos m?s a Taylor Kitsch gracias a la caracterizaci?n del mutante caj?n, Gambito, en "X-Men Or?genes: Lobezno".
En "John Carter" encarna al protagonista de la historia, que, gracias a su aplomo y liderazgo, ayudar? a salvar a las distintas razas que habitan Marte, a la vez que renueva sus ganas de vivir as? como su p?rdida de fe en la humanidad.
Le secundan la atractiva Lynn Collins (El n?mero 23, El mercader de Venecia) como la princesa Dejah Thoris. Hay que destacar el estupendo reparto de esta pel?cula de ficci?n, que cuenta con el veterano y magn?fico Willem Dafoe, que cuenta con dos nominaciones a los Oscar por "La sombra del vampiro" y "Platoon", el camale?nico y habitual "villano" Mark Strong (Red de mentiras, Sherlock Holmes), Samantha Morton (Elizabeth: La Edad de Oro, C?digo 46), Thomas Haden Church (Entre copas, Spider-Man 3), el secundario irland?s Ciar?n Hinds (Roma, El topo), Dominic West (The Wire, 300),James Purefoy (Roma, Solomon Kane) o el profesor de qu?mica, metido a narcotraficante, de la sorprendente "Breaking Bad", Bryan Cranston.

?"Nada en John Carter siquiera es accidentalmente genuino".
Basada en una novela poco conocida del visionario Edgar Rice Burroughs, la cinta echa ra?ces en una visualizaci?n anacr?nica el espacio exterior, fruto de un tiempo en el que la imaginaci?n cubr?a los huecos que la ciencia a?n no pod?a colmar.
Efectos especiales aparte la cinta es poco m?s que un pastiche espacial-mitol?gico de los 50 pero con la artiller?a visual de un espect?culo del siglo en curso.
?Eso s?, no es original ni como arcaismo; Andrew Stanton imagina el rocambolesco universo marciano de John Carter mirando descaradamente de reojo a cl?sicos recientes del fant?stico y la ciencia-ficci?n expl?citamente citados.
Su pel?cula es visual y conceptualmente un collage muy conseguido de Star Wars, Serenity o Prince of Persia, por citar solo tres de los m?ltiples ejemplos que vienen a la mente. Nada en ella perdura, porque sus mejores virtudes se diluyen en el recuerdo de experiencias cinematogr?ficas previas que s? asum?an los riesgos que Stanton decide no asumir.
?Hay m?s, John Carter es el t?pico y t?pico cuento de h?roe por accidente, de salvador de mundos ajenos alrededor de una previsible historieta de amor h?roe-princesa que progresa desde el cl?sico desprecio mutuo basado en una tensi?n sexual evidente y no resuelta hasta una explosi?n de romanticismo ?o?o al m?s puro estilo George Lucas.

Al fin y al cabo el romance entre Carter y la princesa Dejah es una redici?n, sin apenas matices, de aquel otro legendario entre el cowboy solitario Han Solo y la temperamental princesa Leia de la trilog?a gal?ctica. Ahora bien, a?n asumiendo las lagunas de concepto y la escasa imaginaci?n que rezuma una puesta en escena a todo trapo pero demasiado gregaria de otras de parecido pelaje, John Carter es de esas contadas pel?culas que sabe copiarse del vecino con clase.
?Stanton teje un universo propio poblado de retales prestados de otras pel?culas, pero la entidad del dise?o de producci?n y la pasta invertida en los efectos visuales lucen resultonas. Hay m?s, Stanton es un narrador de vieja escuela para lo bueno y para lo malo.
Su pel?cula se atiene, cierto, a los patrones tradicionales de romance y aventura de los cl?sicos de los 80's.

Parad?jicamente es un punto a favor, puede que John Carter no sea original (que no lo es), pero al menos est? contada con gracia, en torno a un esquema dram?tico tan elemental como efectivo y conteniendo, que ya tiene m?rito con los tiempos que corren, la adrenalina digital para que no devore la min?scula historia.
M?s all? de sus expl?citos defectos John Carter es cine entretenido y dotado de un sentido del ritmo ?gil y coherente. No es poco a tenor de la que est? cayendo en el cine comercial de gran presupuesto.
