The Board of Selectmen in Belmont, Massachusetts -- home of the unfinished basement that Mitt Romney proudly called home -- had a meeting this past Wednesday. As you may already have guessed, this wasn't an ordinary, run-of-the-mill Board of Selectmen meeting. Nay, the agenda included one item so urgent that Tagg Romney, the proud owner of that very same unfinished basement, left his father's campaign to add his voice to the discussion.

The urgent issue at hand was the question of whether the town should sell a 2.5 acre parcel to an out-of-town real estate developer, who planned to construct an 18-bed hospice on the site. This 2.5 acre parcel happens to be on the same road as that unfinished basement. That same road also provides access to the Belmont Country Club, so it's not as if it's unused for any commercial purpose.

Oh, but wait:

The turning point of the meeting occurred with Greensbrook Way resident Tagg Romney expressing the collective zeitgeist saying a hospice will eventually bring down property values "dramatically" in the area and [a]ffecting negatively town tax coffers, noting also that nearly two dozen children under the age of 16 live on his street.

Romney... said the neighborhood has received word that a growing number of residential developers are keen to build on the lots.

"We have been wishing that the town would put the land back out to bid so I or someone else could put homes there," he said, to applause from those attending.

Under pressure, the selectmen decided to offer the land for bid to residential developers. Like Tagg? Not so fast:

Romney said he would not seek to bid on the parcel this time around, rather being happy that any future project will likely be residential.

I guess for Tagg, some things are more important than getting his father elected. Things like defending his property values from dying people, and preserving unfettered access to the country club. London, August 19 (ANI): Rihanna has been accused of sanctioning violence by charities, after she admitted that she still feels protective towards former boyfriend Chris Brown who was charged with assaulting her three years ago.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 24-year-old R and B artist had insisted that Brown made a mistake and needed help when, according to police reports, he punched her in the face, smashed her head against a car window, and bit her following an argument on the eve of the Grammys in 2009.

One charity said that she was in danger of reducing savage attacks to the seriousness reserved for kiss-and-make-up stories in glossy magazines, while another called for an end to sticking-plaster policies in pop culture's attitudes towards domestic violence.

This sends out a very dangerous message to teenagers that roller-coaster relationships with violence-prone personalities are edgy and exciting, the Independent quoted Erin Pizzey, the campaigner who pioneered aid for abused women by setting up Britain's first refuge centre for victims, as saying.

They're not. The relationship is toxic and unhealthy. Both are in need of help and that is the message that young people should be receiving, she said.

The 'Umbrella' hitmaker also said that the assault had left her in a weird, confusing space.

Conceding that she still harboured feelings for her former boyfriend, she added: I lost my best friend - like everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that.

He made that mistake because he needed help. Everybody's gonna say he's a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him, she said.

Vivienne Hayes, chief executive of the Women's Resource Centre, said: Rihanna's case demonstrates the emotional complexities felt by women locked in abusive relationships.

It is common for victims to blame themselves for violence perpetrated by their male partners. Whatever the nature of the argument, [Brown] chose to beat her up.

FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 10 HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FEATURE FILMS FROM MUMBAI?IN CITY TO CITY PROGRAMME

Toronto ? The Toronto International Film Festival? announced today the lineup for the fourth edition of the City to City programme. Earlier this year, Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Festival, confirmed that the 2012 spotlight would shine on filmmakers working and living in Mumbai and introduce audiences to local independent films which contrast with Bollywood?s dazzling commercial movies. The City to City series is an exploration of the urban experience, highlighting the best in emerging cinematic talent in a particular locale.

?Mumbai?s cinema today is entirely different from what it was even a few years ago. FESTIVAL LINEUP

Toronto ? New this year, the Toronto International Film Festival? introduces a TIFF Cinematheque programme that will screen during the Festival this September. Now in its 22nd year, TIFF Cinematheque is a world-renowned screening programme devoted to the presentation, understanding and appreciation of Canadian and international cinema.

Led by Brad Deane, Manager of Film Programmes, the line-up includes selections by the TIFF Cinematheque programming team of James Quandt, Noah Cowan, Jesse Wente, as well as Festival programmer Andr?a Picard and TIFF CEO and Director Piers Handling. The TIFF Cinematheque programme includes a collection of six restored classics and one documentary.
